How to Review Your Wedding Photographer (and Why It Matters)

When your wedding day has come and gone, the flowers will fade, the cake will be eaten, and the dress will be carefully packed away, but your photographs will remain. As a wedding photographer serving Louisiana, Mississippi, and Gulf Coast couples, I know how much those images mean to you. One of the best ways you can give back to your photographer, (and help future couples) is by leaving a thoughtful, honest review. But what should you say? And why is your review so important? Let’s break down how to review your wedding photographer.

Why Reviewing Your Wedding Photographer Matters

  1. Helps Future Couples Make Confident Decisions
When newly engaged couples search for a wedding photographer in cities like Covington, Baton Rouge, Jackson, or the Gulf Coast, they often rely on reviews to narrow down their choices. Your words can help them feel reassured about choosing someone they can trust.
  2. Supports Small Businesses
Most wedding photographers are small, locally-owned businesses. Reviews help us grow and reach more of the couples we love serving, especially on platforms like Google, The Knot, and Facebook.
  3. Preserves Your Story
Writing your review is also a way to reflect on your wedding experience and the role your photographer played in capturing it. It becomes part of your love story’s record.

When to Write Your Review

The best time to write your review is within a week or two of receiving your wedding gallery, while the emotions are still fresh. If you had a great engagement session experience, you can also leave another review before the wedding.

How to Write a Helpful Review

When you sit down to review your wedding photographer, think about these key points:

1. Start with Your Overall Impression

Did your photographer make you feel comfortable? Were they professional, organized, and on time? Did they bring calm energy to the day?

Example: “From our first meeting at our engagement session in Baton Rouge to our final gallery delivery, Haleigh was kind, professional, and such a calming presence on our wedding day.”

2. Mention the Booking Process and Communication

Future couples want to know if it’s easy to get in touch and if questions were answered promptly.

3. Share Specific Memories

Highlight moments that stood out – whether it was a fun engagement session at your wedding venue, a touching first look, or how they handled unexpected weather.

4. Describe the Final Photos

Talk about the style, quality, and how well your photographer captured the emotions of the day.

Example: “Our gallery is full of bright, colorful images that perfectly reflect our joyful celebration in Gulfport.”

5. Include Location Details

Mention where your wedding took place. This helps with local SEO (search engine optimization) so couples searching in your area can find your photographer more easily.

Where to Post Your Review

Your review will have the most impact if it’s shared in a few key places:

  • Google Business Profile (the most powerful for SEO)
  • The Knot / WeddingWire
  • Facebook
  • Direct testimonial for your photographer’s website

Final Thoughts on How to Review your Wedding Photographer

Leaving a review is more than just a thank-you, it’s a gift to your photographer and to future couples planning their dream wedding in Louisiana, Mississippi, or along the Gulf Coast. Your words help others feel confident in making one of the most important decisions for their wedding day: choosing the person who will capture it all.
