If you’re newly engaged and in the midst of planning your special day, one of the questions you might be asking is “why have a bridal session?”. In case you don’t know what a bridal session is, this is a time that I spend photographing the bride prior to the wedding day (typically 1-2 months before the wedding date or whenever the dress is back from alterations). This often hour long session is such a beautiful Southern tradition.
There are so many important reasons why you should consider having one!! Here are just a few tips to help shed some light on this important part of your wedding journey.
Hair and Makeup Trial
When one of my bride’s chooses a bridal session, I always recommend that they have the same hair and makeup team prep them for their session. Doing this, allows you to see if you like your chosen hair and makeup style ahead of time. This will give you so much more confidence going into your wedding day! You may have thought you wanted your hair down but during a session you may realize that your hair would look better up with your dress. Knowing this decision ahead of time can save you so much time on your wedding day!
Test the Dress
Prior to your wedding day, you will have only worn your dress during fittings. You need real world experience with your dress! A bridal session allows you try walking and sitting with your dress. I have had brides before that realized they needed extra alterations done after their session! This is another relief you will be glad to have found out ahead of time.
Prints, Prints, Prints!
Most of my brides choose a large photo from their bridal session to print, frame, and display at their wedding reception. Even choosing a large canvas print is a stunning option! This is not only a beautiful addition to your reception decor, but also a sweet memento from the day. Some brides even choose to gift prints to their parents or grandparents as a special thank you for being a part of their lives.
More Bridal Considerations
Do you live out of state or just can’t seem to find time to add in a bridal session prior to the wedding day? Consider adding on extra coverage to your wedding day just for bridals! With this extra time we can allot 20-30 extra minutes at your venue for portraits of you in your beautiful gown!
